As
the black limousine pulled to the curb, the crowd fell silent outside
the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Who would be the next “celebrity”
on the red carpet? The door swings open and a beautiful, ethereal
fairy emerges. What? Yes, a fairy in the form of “Art of Enchantment”
artist Vicki Visconti-Tilley, dressed in a stunning purple gown
and wings which shimmered as she walked down the red carpet with
her family and licensing agent, Carol Perciavalle of Land of Myth
and Not. The occasion: the first annual Premier Academy Awards for
visual artists, the ARTV Fine Arts Awards, which was filmed October
29th 2005, in Las Vegas. This historic event, created by visionary
art promoter, Audrey Roberts, differs from most in that the artists
were judged not only on their artistic talent, but also on their
dedication to producing their art, along with a firm commitment
to promoting the arts.
The evening was to bring more surprises to Vicki. The competition
of over fifty artists from throughout the United States and beyond
was divided into thirteen categories. Vicki was nominated for her
painting done in Prisma colored pencil, “Mermaid Moon
Rising” pictured here.
Her exquisitely intricate and delicate pen & inks were on exhibit
as well. The art of enchanted worlds was well represented. Along
with Vicki, such notable nominees as Josephine Wall (acrylic), Francine
Dufour (mixed media) and Debra Von Zink (oil) attended. It was a
win for the entire field of fantasy and faerie art when Ms. Visconti-Tilley
was presented the “Muse” Award for Drawing. “This
is the first time an artist working in this field, has won a national
award that focuses on all genres,” stated Visconti-Tilley
in her acceptance speech.
Faerie Magazine and Vicki’s sponsors, Land
of Myth and Not, Inc, congratulate her on winning the prestigious
Muse award and celebrate her dedication to sharing her vision with
the world by continuing to produce such magical and enchanted art.
Ms. Visconti-Tilley is no stranger to the podium. She has won
numerous awards throughout her career. In 2004, she was asked to
be one of five celebrity artist judges for the Art Quotient Annual
international competition, following in the footsteps of world-renowned
artist Bob Byerly. The same year she was also the recipient of an
Artist in Residency grant with the Lied Children’s Museum
in Las Vegas, Nevada. This resulted in a permanent installation
in the museum of her work and her students entitled “A Tapestry
of Dragons and Unicorns.” The prestigious online Duirwaigh
Gallery has also named Vicki one of the Top Ten Romantic Fantasy
Artists in their Arthur Rackham competition. Influences of Mr. Rackham
as well contemporary faery artists such as Brian Froud, along with
the works of the Pre-Raphaelites and a love of Celtic knotwork are
seen in her work. Her illustrations can be found in several books
and magazines including Creative Colored Pencil, Storytime Books
“The Story of Cara,” Fractured Rhymes, In Light
Times and the Faerie Magazine, to name just a few. Vicki is also
named in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America
and Who’s Who in the West.
Ms.
Visconti-Tilley began her art career at the age of three in the
“Land of Enchantment,” New Mexico, but now resides in
Las Vegas, Nevada. She credits much of her success to her parents,
her husband Russell and daughter Shannon. “My mom taught me
to color outside the lines and dad was the one who hauled me to
every art show I could enter.” But the type of art she creates
was destiny, the Art of Enchantment, Faery & Myth.
Her subjects were born within her and carried forward in her soul
for centuries. With her European ancestry, Vicki has always felt
a link to the Old World images of forgotten civilizations. Simply
signing her artwork “Visconti,” she is one of a few
artists skilled in many different mediums including pen & ink,
colored pencil, watercolor and oils.
Vicki dreams of castles filled with chivalrous knights, dragons
from times of old, strong heroic women fighting for their place
in the world, goddesses and moonlit marshes glittering with luminous
faerie wings. These romantic images are her inspiration. Her art
leads us to a place hidden deep within all of us, where magic is
real and faeries do fly and where myth and legend are truths. Her
most recent series is “Season of the Faerie.”
These oil paintings explore the different stages in a fae’s
life and each is accompanied by poetry that Vicki has composed.
