Alan Lee Meeting with Fairies World®

In December 2004 Myrea Pettit of Fairies World® together with her youngest daughter Eleanor travelled to Dartmoor in Devon.

Even in winter the countryside with its narrow lanes and twisted hedges, trees bereft of leaves , long natural stone walls all casting shapes and shadows that inspire creative imagination. Serious artists have to carry sketchbooks as photographs even though they act as a memory guide cannot capture the passion of the moment , the shape of a new fairy creature, as well as a drawing can.

There are many fairy and fantasy artists that live in this beautiful area of southern England, but this was in fact an opportunity to meet the famous illustrator Alan Lee who would be writing the foreword to the new book by David Riché 'The World of Faery' to be published by Paper Tiger in September 2005 in which Myrea was a participating artist.

Alan Lee was so kind and caring to his visitors, not only did he discuss the new book project but took the time to show Myrea and Eleanor some of his drawing techniques and to visit his amazing studio where he created many of his Tolkien "Lord of the Rings" illustrations many of which will be seen later this year in a new book of his

Sharing this days precious experience with Alan Lee was amazing, his kindness and his enthusiasm to support the emerging new artists that will be featured in 'The World of Faery' is truely indicative of the very special person he is.

Not so far away was another treasured meeting with Elizabeth Jane Baldry, www.fairyharp.com in her little cottage with her two wonderful sons just finished school for the Christmas holidays.

Elizabeth Jane is Englands foremost Harpist her sparkling harp recitals introducing audiences to glorious music from the last five hundred years of history and is best known for her rediscovery of Victorian Fairy Harp Music.

For four years now corresponding via e.mail yet never having the opportunity to meet because of other committments, but this time it was so very special. Another moment of sheer fairy magic as Elizabeth Jane played her beautiful harps that she and the boys share her cottage with. It was her playing of Pachelbel Canon in D that moved Myrea to tears.

No trip to Devon would be complete without visiting many of other fairy artists and fairy friends and this was no exception certainly for Myrea and Eleanor this was a very special experience.
