Dragon Killer - Jon Gutmacher2011©Orlando USA
He stole so quickly thru darkened hall
trodding care
lest trip or fall
for the monster slept both hard and lite
awake by the day
asleep by nite
rasping breath
he climbed a path
and ancient sword
does t that he haft
Magic cloak protect us all!
lest it stir
by yonder wall
breathing fire
claws of death
bones are scattered
east and west
those who thought
could conquer all
torn to bits
with ashen pall
Door beyond
of gold and brass
barred with spells
so none would pass
yet beyond
rest Magic book
full of secrets
if he could look
Stealthy, Stealthy
now so slow
only feet and yards
to go
Hear it s breathing
feel its heat
see its talons
scales replete
Almost past the dragon sleep
slip the lock
so very neat
And the door slid
just a crack
as the dragon s
head reared back
No! , he cried
and raised his blade
but not enough
he wasn t saved
Fire rang out
and filled the hall
talons ripped
the knight did fall
For the book
was not for him
ancient curse
the room grew dim
And the Dragon
closed its eyes
til the next
came close
to die
