Inside the dusty-mirrored Victorian,
Down the tangerine-walled staircase
To the charcoal-black furnace,
Where sunlight itself is a
Foreign element in the gloom,
Past the drop-leafed table
With the torn, stained envelope,
The black-ribboned cradle rocks.
