Dark Fairy Tale wins acclaim and Bafta awards

“Pan’s Labyrinth” brings a terrible fairy tale to life

The Spanish-language dark fairytale Pan’s Labyrinth won three Baftas awards including the award for best foreign language film In London at the Royal Opera House Sunday 11 February 2007.
It’s about an imaginative little girl, Ofelia, played by IVANA BAQUERO, whose wicked stepfather is a brutal officer in Franco’s army.

The child seeks refuge in a dark world of fantasy. This is Del Toro’s most ambitious and accomplished film to date, although, despite its affinities to other childhood stories about lonely little girls who experience strange adventures, it’s not exactly a film for children.

It’s very dark and violent, with the fanatical and brutal stepfather, acted by Sergi Lopez, more terrifying than any of the fantasy creatures Ofelia encounters.

The story is compelling and deep, the film is both beautiful, exciting, often horrifying. The digital effects are superb one cannot help but be totally immersed in this powerful story.
