Once a regular visitor nesting pairs have not been seen for over fifty years here prefering the warmer gulf stream they are seen in Galicia in Spain and the Azores. Probably blown off course by recent storms this visitor is not expected to stay long, twitterers please note, though you would be most welcome to the Isle of Man.

Dogwood Flower

by Hiroshi Ando

This is one of the famous songs in Japan.

Lyrics to Dogwood Flower:

To the sky you reach out your hand
The songs of the clouds
Call you to distant lands
To the wind you call my name
Carried to the shore
The shore where I wait

A dogwood flower, I’d give to you
A blossom then, soon come to bloom

May the dreams you hold
The dreams that shine like rosen gold
Last forever
I wish for you to shine above
To radiate your endless love
May it last a hundred years from now

Summer heat weighing down on us
This boat is too weak and so in me, please trust
I will follow you
Please go ahead and I will be there soon

Queen Victoria’s Fairy

March 23rd, 2009

Queen Victoria and the Victorians loved Fairies so much so the Royal Yacht was named ‘Fairy’ , the love of the Fey became a craze for artists, authors, musicians, collectors, believers and seers for decades.

Royal yacht HMY ‘Fairy’
The iron screw yacht Fairy' was built at Blackwall by Ditchburn and Mare in 1844. It was launched and commissioned in 1845 and measured 146 feet in length by 21 feet in the beam with a tonnage of 312 burden. The 'Fairy' accompanied the 'Victoria and Albert' yacht on voyage and her first duty was to attend the Royal Yacht in Antwerp and take the Queen and Prince Albert on board for their cruise in the shallow waters of the Scheldt. It also sailed many times to Scotland during the summer months as well as conveying members of the Royal Family to and from Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. She was replaced by the 'Alberta' in 1863 and finally broken up in 1868.

“Go where Ireland takes you”

March 3rd, 2009

A three year Worldwide Advertising Campaign for Tourism Ireland started February 2009 for Dublin. Millions of visitors to the Magic of Northern and Southern Ireland will be enchanted by the amazing folklore and hospitality of this country will be touched with the magic of the Fairy’s footprints

I still have the mark on the end of my nose,
Footprints from the fairy`s toes,
I think they`re speckled,
But some say they`re freckled.
There was a fairy on my nose!
